How R̶e̶m̶o̶t̶e̶ Work Should Look

I recently saw an article about a large tech company requiring employees once again to work from its office starting September 1st. This tech company is taking the approach that things are returning back to as they were before. I can’t help but think that it’s an “Iron Fist” approach towards something that doesn’t need to be. I wanted to throw out my solution because I’ve been weaving in and out of remote positions for the past 10 years. In-person positions generally paid better, and with better benefits, but remote positions gave me more flexibility. Ultimately, I felt as a professional and as a human, I will be more successful as a remote professional. I feel I can very much so speak to both environments and will get into a bit more soon. However, I want to first clarify, why work in an office?

Why Work in an Office.

To me, from my own personal experience, I am more efficient working in an office space with other employees. Even if I am not interacting with them at all, I am still more efficient. Keep in mind, I am a very self-disciplined person, but walking into an office space means, you are doing this company’s work only, and nothing else. It diminishes the quality of life for employees. No trips to the refrigerator, no cooking lunch, less time to work out, talk to family members. Nonetheless, I do believe that in the long run, companies…
